La Jolla SummerFest Opening Night: Expect the Unexpected

  • The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center La Jolla, CA (map)

This festival we delight in the unknown, the surprising and the unexpected. In that spirit, music director Inon Barnatan has created a concert program for opening night that will not be disclosed in advance and which, like an Omakase meal at a sushi restaurant, invites you to trust the chef to create an unforgettable experience. Superstar conductor Alan Gilbert, principal conductor of Hamburg’s Elbephilharmonie and former music director of the New York Philharmonic, leads an all-star cast of musicians in an unmissable program of chamber and orchestral works, including a virtuosic showstopper, a lush symphony, and an iconic piano concerto.

Program:

LIGETI Bagatelles for wind quintet No. 1, 3 & 6

SCHREKER Kammersymphonie

MARTINU La revue de cuisine [The Kitchen Survey], for Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Violin, Cello and Piano
